Helen, work life lockdown

1. How do you make a living

I help wellness business owners grow through marketing, social media and mentoring. I also run workshops and events to empower and inspire wellness business owners to grow.

Find out more about my business at samsaracommunications.com.

2. Has your career been impacted by Covid-19 and if so, how?

I’ve been very fortunate that it has been largely positive for the wellness industry.

For example, I work with yoga teachers who have shifted their entire offerings online, so I’ve been busy helping them.

The global pause has also resulted in many people shifting the focus to getting serious about starting their own wellness businesses and seeking my support.

3. How has that impact made you feel?

Like many of us I was in shock and destabilised when lockdown was announced and the whole world as we knew it shifted in a matter of days.

I’m very grateful to be in the position that I’m in to be continuing to run my business and support others.

I’m interested to see all of the innovation and creativity that will emerge from our current times.

4. How are you safeguarding your career during this time?

I’m learning new skills, writing (which is a passion of mine I had put on the back burner), creating useful content for my audience, strategising and collaborating.

… And resting!

5. Will you change anything about your way of living when things go back to normal? If yes, how?

For sure!

I’ll be prioritising my wellness more than ever, focusing on adding as creating as much value as possible and just *fearlessly* going for it with ideas that I’ve been wanting to bring into fruition.

Life is too short to not just go for it.

6. How are you maintaining your wellbeing during this time?

I’ve been upping my yoga practice to most days of the week.

We are so fortunate to have access to so many amazing teachers - check out Trish Whelan, Carolyn Cowan and Kindred Yoga Studio. I also love Shona Vertue’s videos.

I’ve also been resting more, having long baths, spending time in nature and meditating. These are helping to keep me balanced.

7. If you were to recommend one thing to do in lockdown - what would it be & why?

Yoga. There has never been a better time to cultivate a practice.

Start small, try different teachers and different styles and have fun with it.

8. If a helping hand could be given to you now, what would it look like?

Love this question! I would love a small business grant to support me in the offerings I’m creating for wellness business owners.

I want to be able to help as many as possible around the world to significantly grow their businesses, help their clients and customers to heal and feel better and support each other as we all contribute to the uplift in the consciousness of the planet.

9. If you were to spend lockdown with a famous person, who would it be and why?

Oprah! Such a powerful woman, so wise and wonderful. I would learn so much from her.

10. What excites you most about post-lockdown life?

On a personal level, seeing my friends, I miss them! And getting a matcha latte from my favourite cafe :)

On a collective level, seeing the positive elements of lockdown - whether that’s an increase in people taking care of themselves, governments shifting how they support their people and the wealth of new businesses and innovation that will have been born.
