Christen - work life lockdown

1. How do you make a living?

I work for a small digital HR platform and I run a CBD cold brew coffee business: my-lifeline.co.uk.

2. Has your career been impacted by Covid-19 and if so, how?

My CBD cold brew coffee is about to launch - which is not the best timing as both buyers and distributors are understandably distracted.

*Since this interview took place, My Lifeline is now listed with Planet Organic - online and in-store.

3. How has that impact made you feel?

As a solo entrepreneur, it’s tough to keep yourself motivated.

It feels like the worst possible timing and the return to normality is not even in sight. Luckily I also ran a crowdfunding campaign which has recently closed and raised my spirits!

4. How are you safeguarding your career during this time?

I’m taking the time to do those tasks I’ve procrastinated on, whether it is registering for VAT or spending more time refining my approach to contacting prospects.

I’m also giving more time and attention to the leads I have.

Finally, I am spending a lot of time on self development, taking advantage of the many webinars made available to small businesses.

5. Will you change anything about your way of living when things go back to normal? If yes, how?

Yes, I will keep buying flowers, particularly yellow ones, they really boost my mood!

6. How are you maintaining your wellbeing during this time?

Maintaining a routine. My morning routine is my most precious moment for me: yoga, reading, and of course CBD cold brew. I also call someone I know every day as I go for a walk as my daily exercise!

7. If you were to recommend one thing to do in lockdown - what would it be & why?

I would recommend two things:

  1. Consciously add some yellow to your life - wear it, paint it, seek it out.

  2. No social media after 6pm.

8. If a helping hand could be given to you now, what would it look like?

I realise the food industry works differently to corporate life I’m used to, and I don’t have all the answers. I think would benefit from coaching from mentor who has experience in the food & beverages industry.

9. If you were to spend lockdown with someone, who would it be and why?

My mum. She is back in Belgium where I am from, and works in intensive care. She’s on the front line and I wish I could see her every day when she comes back from work on the frontline.

10. What excites you most about post-lockdown life?

I can’t wait to travel again - and I really want to visit my family and friends.
