How to start your week when you work in marketing

1. Check industry news and trends

Marketing methods are forever changing, so it’s important to keep up-to-date with the latest industry news and trends by checking relevant sites, social media channels and email bulletins. Some of my favourite include stackedmarketer.com and Google Trends.

Take note - this is something that you ought to be doing little and often throughout the week!

2. Review the performance of last week

Have a scan through your headline metrics that you may find in your own personalised data dashboards or Google Analytics.

Can you identify any peaks or troughs that are worth investigating, ie a decline in social traffic or a spike in PPC conversions? Try to identify a couple of data points that stand out.

A quick weekly review can then help you to leverage this intel and adjust your campaigns in an agile matter to increase your chances of reaching the KPIs you set out.

3. Identify three key objectives for the week ahead

Think bigger than your day-to-day tasks. What is it that’s going to move the needle and take you closer to realising your goals.

Sort your list by urgency & impact. This will help you stay organised and focused on your goals for the week.

And if you don’t have any benchmarks, how do you know what good looks like?

4. No marketeer is an island

Are you and your team (whether it’s in-house of freelancers) aligned on your goals and mission?

Connect with your team members to see who has new ideas that could be explored or who is feeling blocked from progression and needs a helping hand to push forward.

A positive and proactive group sync sets the tone for the week ahead.

5. Plan out your content

Take some time to plan out your content for the week, including social media posts, blog articles, email newsletters, and any other marketing materials.

This will help you stay organised and ensure that your content is aligned with your marketing objectives. Remember to keep it flexible, so if you see an opportunity to publish content that is aligned with a wider initiative that is trending, go do it!

Overall, starting your week with a clear plan and a positive attitude can help you stay productive and achieve your marketing goals!
